August 19, 2018
Making the best of the wet and windy conditions, Garnish retained their Beara Junior A title and thus claiming 3 in a row of the Beara titles, a feat the club last managed in the mid 90’s.
Garnish had the aid of the strong westerly wind in the first half, but it Urhan’s Concubhur Harrington who kicked the opening score of the game in the 4th minute. 2 Paul O’Neill frees in the 8th and 14th minute put Garnish in front but Concubhur equalized for Urhan in the 15th minute. Fintan O’ Sullivan and Sean Terry O’ Sullivan opened up a 2 point gap with with points in the 18th and 20th minutes, but Urhan responded very quickly with a point from Jamie O’ Neill and free from Conor Lowney to leave the scores 4 points each after 22 minutes. In the closing stages of the first half Garnish took advantage of the wind at their backs when the scored 3 unanswered points with a free from Paul O’ Neill and 2 frees from Fintan O’ Sullivan gave Garnish a 3 point lead at half time on a score line of 0-7 to 0-4.
Despite playing into a stiff breeze for the 2nd half Garnish registered the first score of the 2nd half with a free from Fintan O’ Sullivan. Urhan were finding it difficult to take advantage of the wind at their backs and had to wait until 43rd minute of the game to register their first score of the 2nd half when Jamie O’ Neill slotted over a free.
